In silico techniques. Refers to computational studies performed using numerical CFD simulation. These numerical models need an in vivo or in vitro validation.

4.1 In Vivo Techniques

4.1.1 Characterization of the Flow in the Heart

There are several in vivo techniques based on clinical images that make it possible to characterize the functioning of the heart:Echocardiography, based on the use of ultrasound. There are different types:TTE (Transthoracic echocardiography). It is a non-invasive technique and constitutes the most common type of echocardiogram. The ultrasonic transducer is placed on the chest wall and varying its position and orientation, images of different planes of the heart can be obtained. This technique allows the reconstruction of 2D and 3D images.
